International students in Canada who are looking for their permanent residency pathways can target RCIP program, one the participating community West Kootenay has published a list of priority sectors and priority occupations for it’s selection of immigrants for permanent residency.
RCIP constitutes vast communities and each community has its own priority list. It’s important that you check the specific community list when you are targeting a specific community for permanent settlement. The community has started accepting applications from employers to be designated and by early July they will begin recommendations process.

Priority Sectors
The West Kootaney is focusing five key sectors for this year:
- Health
- Education, Law and Social, Community and Government Services
- Sales & Service (fast food businesses are not eligible)
- Trades, Transport, and Equipment Operator
- Manufacturing and Utilities
These sectors are selected based on the local employer demand and workforce needs. These sectors may be changed in future depending upon the local needs of the economy. There are some sectors which are not eligible includes: Business, Finance & Administration; Natural & Applied Sciences; Arts, Culture Recreation & Sport; and Natural Resources, Agriculture & Related.
Priority Occupations
It’s very important to notice that Fast food franchises are not eligible for the West Kootenay Rural Community Immigration Pilot. So if you are fast food sector worker don’t target this program.
Important Note: At least 75% of your job duties must be within the West Kootenay region.
