Important Update from Saskatchewan Canada. SINP closed for many sectors

Government of Canada has slashed the PNP numbers of the provinces by 50% thus SINP has announced major changes to its SINP program. Let’s talk about what sectors will be affected by this overhaul of SINP.

Effective Immediately SINP has closed applications for majority of workers outside of Canada in some specific sectors. These are :

  • Accommodation and Food Services
  • Retail Trade
  • Trucking

This is a big relief for work permit holders inside Canada such as PGWP holders as now only inside applicants (temporary residents) with valid job approval letter from a eligible SK employer will be considered but there are some exceptions for healthcare, agriculture, and skilled trades.

Sector Specific Cap Reached

SINP has implemented the 25% cap on some specific sectors. These sectors are not in demand such as :

  • Accommodation and Food Services
  • Retail Trade
  • Trucking

Important to know that this 25% cap has already been reached for 2025. Thus, no new nominations will be accepted in these fields. All applications affected by this cap will be returned back and applicants can apply in the demand sectors such as healthcare and trades.

Important Points to consider

If you are a temporary foreign worker in Canada working in the demand sectors you can still apply for PNP. These sectors are healthcare, agriculture and skilled trades. If you are not then you can upskill yourself and switch to these sectors to make yourself eligible. For, the employers in SK important to know that applications outside of Canada are restricted-some exceptions apply.

This is a major blow to workers in food, retail and trucking in Canada and were planning to apply their PNP. Now they can’t in these sectors. It’s important to know that Canada is now changed and favors healthcare and trades sectors for PNPs and PR. Provinces wants to attract skilled workforce not anymore food service workers.
