Capping Temporary Immigration under 5% by 2027

The new government has planned to slash the share of temporary residents this includes international students and foreign workers from the current high of 7.3% of Canadian population to below 5% by the end of 2027.

Reasoning

Canadian government has designed these measures to help them on some of these priorities:

  • To improve the housing availability.
  • It will ease pressure on public infrastructure and social services.

Stabilization of Permanent Residency numbers: Less than 1% annually

Recently Canada has seen a surge in the number of permanent residents thus Canada aims to stabilize the admission of PR to less than 1% Canada’s population beyond 2027.

Target

  • Economic Immigration: Economic class immigrants drive innovation and growth.
  • Reuniting Families : Immigrants will be able to invite their family.
  • Continuous support of refugees and human rights defenders.

Regenerating the Global Skilled Strategy

Carney’s plan seeks to revitalize the Global Skills Strategy to enable the Canadian companies to attract the top skilled workers across the globe. This will help Canada to streamline the hiring process in high growth sector to maintain its pace. Plus it will help skilled workers to fast track their visa process.

Faster Foreign Credential Recognition Program

Immigrants who have higher foreign education often face difficulties in their credential evaluation as per the Canadian standards. It takes several steps and long period of time in this process. The current Carney government plans to overhaul the process so that immigrants can gain these credentials in much faster time. This will fasten integration of immigrants in the workforce. For e.g. if you are a foreign doctor you will able to practice in Canada.

Faster and Reliable Processing System

Currently Canada is facing enormous processing time in applications and causing stress and anxiety among immigrants. The new plan proposes to:

  • Digital tools for IRCC to reduce the processing time.
  • Better customer service for the applicants.
  • Out phasing of old paper based process and backlogs.

Ultimately this means faster study permits for international students ,work permits and permanent residency application decisions.

Legal Aid for the Refugees and Asylum Seekers

Canada will continue to support the asylum seeker and refugee claimants. The plan includes support and increased legal aid to ensure faster resolution of their cases and lower unnecessary appeal.

Integrity and Enforcement: Removal of Fraud and Abuse

In the new plan failed asylum claimants will be removed from Canada. Plus Canada will strengthen its border integrity, tighten visa rules and crack down on immigration fraud which is rampant. If you are doing any visa application for Canada always make sure you never misrepresent and all of your information and documents are accurate and original.

Quebec Immigration Rule will be Respected

Canada will uphold the Canada-Quebec Accord means Canada will respect QC authority to manage its own immigration levels in lines with French language protection and French cultural preservation.

Boosting Francophone Immigration outside Quebec

In the current plan a 12% target for Francophone Immigration outside of Quebec will be set by 2029 this is a 20% increase from the current levels. This will strengthen the French population across Canada. This means that if you are an international student in Canada or temporary foreign worker and if you learn French language and pass the eligible French language exams you have very high chances of getting permanent residency.
