The university ranking organization QS World University Ranking has published a list of Top World’s Universities. These are top Canadian universities in the list.
McGill University situated in Montreal, Quebec ranks 27 in the list with score of 88.90.
University of Toronto ranks 29 with the score of 88.50.
University of British Columbia ranks 40 with the score of 85.50.
These 3 Canadian universities are in world’s top 50 list. In top 100 there are 4 universities. The fourth university is University of Alberta with rank 94 and score of 70.10.

International students if you are looking to study in Canada in the upcoming intakes you should target universities over colleges but universities are very expensive than colleges. There are many good colleges in Canada that provide quality education with affordable tuition.
The institution you select for your higher education must be a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) plus select only Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligible DLI. There are many private DLI’s in Canada that wont provide PGWP.
If you study in Quebec you may need to pass the French language exam as Quebec is the only French language province in Canada. Recently we have seen protests from international students in Quebec as they were forced to pass French language test to become eligible for PGWP.
You can avoid Quebec for your higher education if you are English speaking student and have no interest in learning French.
If you study for one year you become eligible for up to 1 year of PGWP after completion of your education but if you study for 2 years in Canada you become eligible for up to 3 years of PGWP. It’s important to always check the PGWP eligibility of your course and DLI.
Recently Canada has made major changes in PGWP eligibility and made only select programs eligible for PGWP. This is called field of study requirements. You must check your field of study requirements. This is for non degree programs.
If your program has field of study requirements you must graduate from program linked to certain occupations prioritized under Express Entry. This rule applies to students who applied for a study permit on or after November 1, 2024.

- education
- health care
- science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
- trade
- transport
Field of study requirements is not eligible if you graduate from PGWP eligible flight school and study bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctoral degree. Please visit here to read more.
