Ontario Trillium Benefits (OTB) is an important relief program to help low to moderate income individuals and families in Ontario with energy costs, property taxes and sales tax.
The OTB combines the 3 different tax credits into one single convenient monthly payment. These are Ontario Energy and Sales Tax credit, Ontario Sales Tax Credit and Northern Ontario Energy Credit.
The payment issuer is Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) which issues payment on the behalf of Ontario to the eligible Ontario tax residents.
The new OTB payment has been increased to keep in place of rising inflation. These are the new increased approximate amounts of payments you can expect to receive.
For Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit (OEPTC) the amount is up to $1226 for individuals under the age of 65 and up to $1466 for seniors (65+).
For Ontario Sales Tax Credit up to $354 per person, including each dependent child.
For Northern Ontario Energy Credit up to $177 for single person and up to $272 for families.
The first OTB payment for the year 2025-2026 benefit will be issued on July 10, 2025 and if you annual amount is greater than threshold of $360 you will receive monthly payments on 10th of each month through June, 2026.

If your total OTB payment is less than equal to $360 you will get a lump-sum payment in July 2025 and if it’s more than that you’ll receive it in 12 monthly payments. You can choose this option in Form ON-Ben.
To be eligible for OTB credits you must be a resident of Ontario on December 31, 2024 ,filed your 2024 tax return, applied your claim with Form ON-BEN and meet the eligibility on of three credits. The three credits are OEPTC, OSTC and NOEC.
